Welcome to Sacred Sacred Heart School Kindergarten!
Welcome to Sacred Heart Kindergarten Home Page!
All you need to know about the class each week will be posted on this site.
Our school theme this year is Are you ready to be a disciple of Jesus?
Additionally, each month we will look at a saint who represents our theme and a virtue we are trying to strengthen and demonstrate through our actions and words.
Our saint this month is our Blessed Mother Mary
Our focus for this month is desire.

Subject focus for this coming week:
During the month of December, we focus on those less fortunate than we are. We are collecting for the Missionary Childhood Association during the month of December. Your child brought home a Mission box. If they complete chores for you, you could give them money to put in the box. Please be generous. Return the boxes by December 22.
Religion: This week we will focus on preparing. We prepare for the coming of Jesus, into our world. His love is so great for each of us that he did not wait, He came to us! Advent means waiting, which can be so hard. Today, we are instantly given most of what we need. The practice of waiting, is a virtue that needs our self control. What a gift to help our children master that gift.
If you would like to learn more about the Catholic faith, Sacred Heart has a subscription to the streaming site FORMED.org. To access it you can log on to https://formed.org and sign up. It will ask for your zip code, 17603 and Sacred Heart will pop up, enter your name and email and you will be in. There is content for adults and children.
ELA: We are working hard to recognize the name of each letter of the alphabet and its sound. When we see a cow, we know it is named 'cow' and it says "moo". The letters are the same, they have a name and a sound. As we recognize the sound and name of each letter we are able to write the symbols we are naming and listening to. Additionally, we are learning that some letters, when working with other letters, make a unique sound such as the digraphs 'ch', 'th' and 'sh'. These are the "secrets" I spoke to you about, the red posters on the wall. These will help us to recognize words that do not follow the exact name to sound pattern. As we begin to write more, we will identify the need for sentences to contain verbs and we will talk about the noun words, too.
Concepts of print to know: By now, all the children should be using a capital letter for the first letter of their name and all the rest are lower case. If your child is not doing that, I will send home a practice page for that in the RED folder. Capital letters are used at the beginning of names and sentences. We are looking at before, after, beginning, end, middle, these are all concepts that your child needs to understand as they learn to recognize letters, words and sentences. We are looking at story order. We are discovering that we read from left to right and top to bottom. We are looking for periods to end our sentences.
Heart Words: my, the, in, is, for, a, go, to, it, I, am, here, go, and, at, we, like, be, not, can
RED Folder Instructions: Read every day! That is the way to fluent reading. Each week, your child will get 2 books to read to you. Please do not read to your child, help them read to you. They are learning to sound the words out and recognize heart words. They may need a little help for the first few weeks but allow them to try first. If you are noticing they are not recognizing the heart words, help them practice them with flash cards and by writing them. Have your child reread the books multiple times during the week and they can read to anyone! There will be a math activity each week for you to play with your child. These activities will help to make the skills solid. Please return the RED folder on the day written on the outside of the folder. I will fill it with new activities and return it to you that same day. If your child forgets to return the folder on their day, send it back when you can and I will try to get it ready to come home that same day. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Math: This week we are looking at ordinal numbers first to tenth.
Wish List: tissues
Thank you for your help.
