Welcome to Sacred Sacred Heart School Kindergarten!
Welcome to Sacred Heart Kindergarten Home Page!
All you need to know about the class each week will be posted on this site.
Our school theme this year is Are you ready to be a disciple of Jesus?
Additionally, each month we will look at a saint who represents our theme and a virtue we are trying to strengthen and demonstrate through our actions and words.
Our saint this month is our saint is St. Therese of the Child Jesus.
Our focus for this month is hope for heaven.
Here's what next week's schedule looks like:
Please return your child's RED folder on their regular day.
During the month of February, we will be trying to perform 100 acts of kindness. If your child completes an act of kindness at home, cleaning without being asked, helping with something, anything you feel is kind to the family or neighbors, send me a message with the act of kindness and we will add it to our wall!
Monday, February 2 Groundhog's Day!, Spanish, Dress Down for everyone wearing Catholic Schools Week colors: blue, green, orange, purple
Tuesday, February 3 Art/Music, Library,
Wednesday, February 4 - gym
Thursday, February 5 - Technology
Friday, February 6 - Mass 8:30, all are welcome
We will have a Valentine exchange on Friday, February 13. If you child is bringing Valentines to give to their friends, they must bring one for each classmate. In the RED folder this week, I put the names of all the students in kindergarten so you are able to have one for each. Please allow your child to write the names of their classmates on the cards, it is great practice for spelling and handwriting. If it is difficult for them to write that many names, break it down into a few a day until they are finished. Thanks for your support!

For the monthly lunch menu look in the center section of the yellow folder.
Subject focus for this coming week:
Religion: This week we will look Jesus as our Good Shepherd. Knowing that there are many things in the world that can harm us, we look to Jesus to care for and guide us in the truth. As a shepherd protects his sheep with his life, so did Jesus suffer for us to the death. Fortunately, our story can end with eternal life with Jesus in Heaven, if we so choose to allow Him to lead us.
If you would like to learn more about the Catholic faith, Sacred Heart has a subscription to the streaming site FORMED.org. To access it you can log on to https://formed.org and sign up. It will ask for your zip code, 17603 and Sacred Heart will pop up, enter your name and email and you will be in. There is content for adults and children.
ELA: As we begin the second half of Kindergarten, we are looking to put more effort into blending the sounds that should be solid. If you notice your child is not proficient in naming letters and their sounds, please give them extra practice at home. Helping them to sound out words while reading with you or write words, especially rhyming words. For example, ask your child to spell cat, then change it to rat, then change it to mat, etc. Using words with short vowels is the way to begin. If you choose to use words that have long vowels, they may not be aware that another vowel must be there for the long vowel sound or they may know it but are unable to name the vowel. Seeing long vowel words often helps them remember what the extra vowel is. We have worked on recognizing words with an e on the end of cvce words like bike or cape but it is not solid for them yet.
Concepts of print to know: By now, all the children should be using a capital letter for the first letter of their name and all the rest are lower case. We are looking at before, after, beginning, end, middle, these are all concepts that your child needs to understand as they learn to recognize letters, words and sentences. We are looking at story order. We are discovering that we read from left to right and top to bottom. We are looking for periods to end our sentences. Most of the children are proficient with recognizing words, where they begin and end. A few are still not understanding the space between words helps to differentiate each word. While you are reading with your child, occasionally point to the word so they can see each word individually.
Heart Words: my, the, in, is, for, a, go, to, it, I, am, here, go, and, at, we, like, be, not, can, are, do, you, did, will, too, with, all, me
RED Folder Instructions: There is no math activity in the RED folder this week, I sent it in the FID work last Friday. It is to fill a bag with 100 items and to write 3 clues so we can guess what is in the bag!
Next week, I will send the names of all the students in Kindergarten so you can prepare Valentine cards, if your child is planning on bringing them in.
Read every day! That is the way to fluent reading. Each week, your child will get 2 books to read to you. Please do not read to your child, help them read to you. They are learning to sound the words out and recognize heart words. They may need a little help for the first few weeks but allow them to try first. If you are noticing they are not recognizing the heart words, help them practice them with flash cards and by writing them. Have your child reread the books multiple times during the week and they can read to anyone! There will be a math activity each week for you to play with your child. These activities will help to make the skills solid. Please return the RED folder on the day written on the outside of the folder. I will fill it with new activities and return it to you that same day. If your child forgets to return the folder on their day, send it back when you can and I will try to get it ready to come home that same day. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Math: This week we are looking at numbers to 30. We will recall how to write two digit numbers, making sure the order is correct, tens in the tens place and ones in the ones place. These are the early steps to place value. Recognizing the tens seperate from the ones, counting on from 10 rather than one is an important skill many of the children have mastered or are beginning to master. Practice makes better!
Wish List: baby wipes
Thank you for your help.
